Meet the team of Alphanerd
Joe
Hi I’m a Sci Fi geek at heart. I enjoy watching Sci Fi TV, movies and web series , reading Sci Fi related books and comics and listening to all manner of Sci Fi related Podcasts. My favourite TV series usually contain the word ‘Star’ in the title, but others include Firefly, Fringe, and Farscape. Comics are very important to me as they are a very underutilised medium to convey powerful ideas and concepts. I love Science areas from physics and astronomy through to neuroscience and genetics. Although not a video gamer yet I am tempted by them, especially hearing about it from my mates. Mass Effect is something I know I would enjoy as it ticks all the right boxes. Hope my friends and I have something you can enjoy listening to on our podcast Alphanerd.

I started on my road to geekdom in the mid eighties when I would play the Atari 2600. Games I played included Space Invaders, Asteroids but the game I most played was Pac Man. After a very lean period playing video game I was lucky to be given a Amstrad PC which I thought was the best thing sliced bread (how times have changed) decent games on the Amstrad where few and far between however this is where my interest in programming started. In the late eighties and into the nineties my only gaming occurred on the Nintendo, Super Nintendo and Sega Mega Drive systems but I never owned any of them, that was all down to having good friends. One system I did was the short lived (under appreciated in my opinion) Atari Lynx hand held gaming system. Atari timed the released of the Lynx during the same year but for some reason didn’t take off. I then switched to PC gaming until about 2004 when I went back to console with a purchase of the Microsoft Xbox. I have stayed with console gaming since then and have both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles. The Xbox 360 is my platform of choice, due mainly to online experience of Xbox Live. I will play just about any type of game but open world games (GTA, Saints Row etc..) don’t grab my attention and I can’t really explain why.
I do enjoy watching TV mainly sticking to police procedurals but my interest in them is starting to wane (I think they may have peaked). I enjoy the current crop of Monday shows from SyFy, plus a big fan of MythBusters.
I don’t get to the movies a much as I would like mainly getting them TV or borrowing from friends.
Unlike the other members of Alphanerd I don’t read comics, but I am starting to bit by bit. I am easing my went into medium by reading graphic novels based on gaming world, Halo and Gears of War.
Anyway that’s enough about me, hope you enjoy Alphanerd.
